Internet Explorer for Mac

introduction To Internet Explorer for Mac

Internet Explorer for Mac was the default Internet browser developed by Microsoft for the Mac Platform. The initial versions were developed with the same base code with which Internet Explorer for Windows was developed. Later versions were designed very differently, particularly the version 5 that Integrated the Tasman layout engine and many other new features.ie6onmac
In June 2003, as per the 5 year agreement between Microsoft and Apple, Microsoft announced that they are stopping further development of Internet Explorer for Mac and that any kind of support will also not be provided. As a result, the browser wasn’t included in Mac OS X 10.4 that was released in April, 2005. Apple replaced Internet Explorer for Mac with their own web browser Safari in all the later versions of their operating system.

Microsoft ceased support for the browser in December 2005 and also removed the program from the Macintosh download section of their website a month later.

Running Internet Explorer for Mac on OS X

If you’ve switched from a PC to Mac but do not want to change your browser or you don’t like Apple Safari, fortunately you can use Internet Explorer for Mac on your Mac OS X.
Even though Microsoft has removed the Internet Explorer for Mac application from their website, you will find it available to download on numerous other websites including:
1. Pure-mac
2. Softpedia
3. Softonic
Just open any of these websites and click on the download link to get the program on your Mac. Once the download completes, install the program and run it as normal.

You may download and use version 5 of the browser, which was the last version developed for Mac OS X but wouldn’t you be happier to be able to use rather a more advanced version of this browser? I guess you will be! So here are easy instructions to install Internet Explorer 6, 7 or 8, which are specifically built for Windows on you Mac OS X:
You need the following applications to get Internet Explorer 6, 7, or 8 on your Mac.
1. Darwine: Go to this website and download Darwine. Mount the .dmg file you just downloaded and move the application to the Application folder.
2. X11: You need X11 if you are running OS X 10.4 (Tiger) otherwise skip to the next step.
3. ies4osx: Once Darwine is successfully installed, go ahead to download is4osx from here. It is a zip file so you’ve to extract the files from it and execute ies4osx.

A dialog box will appear where you will be presented with all the steps involved to install Internet Explorer. Press the “Install” button and wait for a few moments. You will get two dialogs; press the mouse button to proceed further.
Once the process completes, you will be notified that the installation is complete. And, you will find that Internet Explorer icon is on your OS X desktop ready to be used.
